"My kids adore Footsteps. It’s been an awesome experience!"
Format
Q: What kind of dancing do we learn?
A: Swing, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha cha, Samba, Rumba, Tango, circle dances, contra dances, and line dances.
Q: Is it all instruction? My kids just want to have fun and dance!
A. We want them to have fun and dance, too! In fact, the last hour is all dancing. And by learning how to dance, they'll have even more fun!
Q: What do you teach during the etiquette time?
A: We use a Biblically-based, 10-step etiquette program which takes skills that the students need on the dance floor and translates them into life skills. In addition, we will cover basic etiquette such as thank you notes, phone manners, etc.
Q: Are the students allowed to pick their partners?
A: The students are assigned rotating partners. The process is efficient and facilitates dancing with a variety of partners. During the break time, however, the students can choose to dance with whomever they'd like.
Q: Can my student leave early?
A: We discourage leaving early, but if leaving early is absolutely necessary, please let us know ahead of time and check out with us before going.
Q: What about late arrivals?
A: Arriving late causes class disruptions, and the students may miss important announcements and dance instruction, so please do all you can to arrive on time.
Commitment
Q: What is the benefit of having a one-time registration?
A: The once-a-year registration creates a program that progresses throughout the year. Allowing new students to show up anytime holds the class back because the basic steps are constantly having to be re-taught. If you have friends who want to try out classes, we will have a bring a friend day and our summer classes are a la carte.
Q: What if I have to miss a class? Do I still have to pay?
A: Yes. It’s the same way you don’t get your money back if you sign up for a basketball team and then miss practices or games. You’re committing to a year-long program. We know your student is busy and probably won’t be able to make every class, and there will be plenty of review time, but the classes won’t be held back by trying to accommodate new people.
Q: When does registration close?
A: July 31st is the last day to register at the lowest price and pay the non-refundable registration fee of $50. After that, the price increases to $90 per student and the final day to register and pay the registration fee is August 22. The remaining balance is due August 28 unless other arrangements are made with our treasurer.
Dress Code
Q: Why do we have to dress up?
A: It's part of the atmosphere we're creating, and we want to teach the students to be comfortable in that attire. A dad recently told us that he knows 50-year-old men who don’t feel comfortable outside of their tennis shoes and blue jeans and that limits their ability to function in certain situations.. Another parent told us that he knows people who take jobs based on what they have to wear. Teaching our kids that sometimes they need to dress a certain way to get a certain benefit is a life lesson.
Dads
Q. Why do you allow dads to dance?
A: It helps us even out our guy/girl ratio and provides built-in “chaperones.” It's also a great opportunity to encourage the relationships between generations and dads/daughters. And the moms love it when their husbands learn to dance, too! We require background checks and three reference letters that we will follow up on for any dad wanting to join us. They start in the beginner class with everyone else and help us where needed. As with any of the guys, if a girl feels uncomfortable, we absolutely want to know that and will address it.
